Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with volunteering for the community. First of all, he was brought up by Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They lived on an agricultural property near Eufala in Oklahoma as the youngest of their nine children. Two football. He is one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Roy was a starter, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In his role as a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third time in the year 1975. Selmon earned a degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering in his college days. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. He also began his career in the field of business. His first job was as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was not a surprise when In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy among the top 10 outstanding youngsters throughout the United States. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing 256 pounds in college as a player, captained his team throughout 1975. He was promoted to the associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
